Federal and Institutional Guidance

The  National  Institutes  of  Health  (NIH),  the  National  Science  Foundation  (NSF), and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) of the USDA  have  requirements  for  training  in  the  Responsible  Conduct  of  Research  (RCR).

To see a detailed list of the federal requirements, as well as UCR's institutional plan,  or if you are uncertain about the training requirements that may apply to you, please visit the UCR Office for Research and Economic Development (ORED), Office of Research Integrity.

According to UCR's institutional plan, the PI and the trainee have the primary responsibility for obtaining and documenting the required training.  Attached is a training tracking template that you may find useful in planning for and documenting the required training. The notification of the need for such training, and any compliance aspects of documenting such training, are the responsibility of the UCR Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED).

Please contact the Director for questions about text for training plans.  While training plans are to be written by the PI/sponsor and student, the REEP can provide information about available education/training options on campus.
