General Petitions for Graduate Students

290 Petition (Petition for Directed Studies) - Access via R'Grad

Directed study (not research; research = units of 297 or 299) 

Add a Major

Current graduate students can request to add another major with the approval of the new program and their current program. 

Change in Degree Objective 

Change degree objective within same program 

Change in Major

Current graduate students can request to change to another major with approval from the new program.  Students must apply to the new program by the deadline.

Credit by Exam Students who wish to receive credit for a course by formal examination without enrollment in a course.  $5 fee applies.

Education Abroad Program Academic Planning Form for Graduate Students 

Advising form for graduate students who wish to pursue Education Abroad Programs.  Students must start by consulting with the UCR Study Abroad office

Transfer Coursework - Access via R'Grad

Students wanting to transfer coursework from another university or program to their UCR transcript

Substitute Coursework - Access via R'Grad Students wanting to substitute one required course for another or one non-course requirement for another
Graduate Enrollment Adjustment Form Students wanting to make changes to enrollment after week 2 of the quarter.  NOTE: After week 3, a Late or Retroactive Enrollment Adjustment Petition is also required for adding a course.  After week 6, a Late or Retroactive Enrollment Adjustment Petition is also required for a course withdrawal.  After week 3, a $4 fee applies.
Graduate Student General Petition Students wanting to extend the time limit for an incomplete grade, waive coursework, double count or backdate units from the UCR undergraduate transcript, increase the unit limit for enrollment, etc.

Grade Appeal

Appeal a grade by submitting form to the Academic Senate 

Half-time Status and Reduced Fees App (for all except MBA students)

Students who cannot attend more than half-time due to a full-time job or for medical or personal reasons 

Half-time Status and Reduced Fees App (for AGSM students only) 

Students in programs within AGSM who cannot attend more than half-time due to a full-time job or for medical or personal reasons 

In Absentia Registration Application - Access via R'Grad

Research or study requires extended stay outside California (for the duration of a quarter) 

Intercampus Exchange Application

Take classes at another University of California campus.  This petition is due at least four weeks prior to the beginning of the quarter.

Late or Retroactive Enrollment Adjustment Petition

Add or withdraw from units after the deadline (to be accompanied by the Graduate Enrollment Adjustment Form)

Leave of Absence Form  - Access via R'Grad

Request 1-3 quarters of leave from studies 

Withdrawal Form - Access via R'Grad

Withdraw from the University 

Petition for Remote Participation

Request that one member of the oral qualifying exam committee or the thesis/dissertation committee be permitted to participate in the exam remotely 

Readmission 

Students who were enrolled in a graduate program for one quarter or more and have withdrawn from the University can apply to re-admit back into that same graduate program 

Report of Manuscript Completion

Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts students reporting completion of the manuscript 

S/NC Petition 

Take a course for S/NC credit
