Fee Deadlines

Fall fees are usually due September 15th unless that falls on a weekend. Winter fees are usually due December 15th unless that falls on a weekend. Spring fees are usually due on March 15th unless that falls on a weekend.

Residency Status

All students are classified either as residents or nonresidents of California. New students are required to complete a Statement of Legal Residence (SLR). Former UCR undergraduates must also complete a new Statement of Legal Residence. All new graduate students are initially assessed non-resident tuition until the SLR is received by the Office of the Registrar and a current residency determination is complete.

Residents do not pay supplemental tuition. If a domestic student is determined to be a nonresident the first year they can establish residency and qualify for legal residence by the second year of graduate school.

Final residency status is determined by the Residency Affairs Officer in the Office of the Registrar. For more information about residence for tuition purposes please see the UCR Office of the Registrar: Statement of Legal Residence

Foreign students cannot establish California residency and should expect to pay nonresident tuition every quarter in addition to all other assessed fees until they are advanced to Ph.D. candidacy. Once advanced, foreign students do not pay nonresident tuition for three years (9 terms). After three years, foreign students are assessed the nonresident tuition fee again if their graduate program is not complete.
