Undergraduate Preparation for Graduate Studies

You can’t just go to graduate school on a whim. It takes months of planning and preparation. Here are a few resources that can help give you a great academic opportunity.

UC Leads (UC Leadership through Advanced Degrees)

The UC Leadership Excellence through Advanced Degrees (UC LEADS) Program is a two-year program that provides educationally and/or economically disadvantaged undergraduates pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) with educational experiences that prepare them to assume positions of leadership in industry, government, public service and academia, following the completion of a doctoral degree, preferably at the University of California.

Mentoring Summer Research Internship Program (MSRIP)

The goal of MSRIP is to increase the number of outstanding students from diverse backgrounds who pursue the Ph.D. by strengthening their academic and professional development for admission to the University of California campuses and UC Riverside.

Minority Access to Research Careers - Undergraduate Student Training in Academic Research (MARC U* Star)

  • Biochemistry
  • Biology

  • Neuroscience
  • Chemistry
  • Statistics
  • Biomedical sciences

The program is supported by a research grant from the National Institutes of Health and is open to qualified undergraduate students majoring in the sciences with both an expressed interest in a career in biomedical research and an intention to pursue graduate education.
